I'm always super impressed with Deb's garden. It's a good step towards a self-sustaining home. She even has a worm farm. During their trip to Singapore for our wedding, the zucchinis went berserk as they were not able to pick them in time. The largest one was like the length of my arm! Never knew zucchinis could grow that huge o_O
I think, as I get to travel more and hear the experiences of others who have travelled and lived abroad, the more I appreciate Singapore for what it has.
There's not much I can fault about Singapore. If any, it'd be
1. We are too spoilt. To the point of loosing some of our independence due to our complacency.
2. Consumerism. It is so entrenched in our lifestyles, shopping to destress is a thing.
3. The lack of nature. Of course we can't do much about this, but this does contribute to the consumeristic nature of our society.. I mean, there really isn't that much else to do...
4. The lack of large scale conscious efforts towards enviromental considerations and animal rights. Just step into any supermarket, and it's packed with food products with palm oil, eggs from battery chickens and a miserable selection of free range meat.
At this point, we are still at crossroads. With James ending his contract in March and currently applying for jobs in both Japan and Singapore, who knows where we'd end up? Nonetheless, it makes me happy that he enjoys and appreciates Singapore, perhaps even more than I do.
